Welcome to the official website for Future Leaders magazine, an annual publication which profiles 150 of the UK’s most outstanding African and African Caribbean students and new graduates.

About Future Leaders

Future Leaders is an annual publication which profiles 150 of the most outstanding black university students in Britain.

It is aimed at school, sixth-form, college and university students and is used as a role model guide to inspire and raise attainment.


The publication is launched at an elaborate event, featuring the Meet the Elite careers fair, which has in the past housed companies such as ITV, EY, Accenture, MediaCom, J.P. Morgan, PwC and HSBC.


There are also special guest speakers, interactive self-branding and skill-building workshops, awards, and a networking lunch.


All students featured in the magazine are invited to the launch.


Invitees will also include selected business partners and key influencers, including some featured in out sister magazine, the Powerlist.

About the Editor

Adenike Adenitire has been a professional journalist, editor and PR for the over 20 years. 

She has written for national newspapers such as the Daily Mirror, and the Guardian, appeared on BBC Breakfast TV, and worked as a contributor for the Huffington Post.

She is the former entertainment editor at New Nation newspaper and has interviewed and written profiles on celebrities such as Will Smith, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Samuel L Jackson, Denzel Washington and Usher. She is currently a features writer at the Daily Mirror and a trustee for the charity Inspiring Tomorrow’s Leaders.

Nominations 

About

All the students featured are first nominated via a nomination form, those shortlisted are then invited in for a follow-up interview. Then the final 150 are selected, and appear in the publication, which comes out every September.

Criteria

  For a student to qualify for the Future Leaders list they must be of African or African Caribbean heritage, 25 years-of-age or under, in university education in the UK (IN ANY YEAR) and currently on a 60 per cent or above grade average.


  Alternatively, they should be doing a post-graduate degree, having already completed a first degree, in which they received at least a 2:1.


   ALL nominees must also have at least 120 UCAS points (from a maximum of three A-Levels, International Baccalaureate or BTEC equivalent). In addition, they must be doing something exceptional outside of their studies which marks them out as a person of distinction and showcases strong leadership skills, be it running a successful business, mentoring younger students, doing something outstanding in their community or anything else in that vein.
